INDEPENDENT READING ASSIGNMENT

1. Provide a brief synopsis of the novel you just completed.

2. What was your interest/draw to this book? Who might it appeal to most? Was there anything particularly interesting about this novel, such as setting, an exciting plot, interesting themes, or a personal connection you have with the story?

3. Identify at least 5 literary elements and explain how they are used in your novel. Support each of these examples with a quote from the novel.

4. Analyze how these elements/techniques (characters, setting, plot….) to determine the theme of your novel.

5. Select an interesting excerpt from your novel to share with me (or the class). This should be at least a paragraph in length, and provide an abstract of your novel.
